The name of Robert Tigges World Cup Indoor Hockey Champion, became synonymous with Pro Series Indoor as the likable Dutchman led an All-Star side to take on South Africa. The games produced scintillating quality and made both the International and Local stars household names. A defining moment for anyone who attended was the Exhibition match played at St Anne’s college in Pietermaritzburg, with the more than capacity crowd rivaling the sound produced from a packed Ellis Park in singing the National Anthem.
The Pro Series Indoor also featured an FIH ladies Four Nation tournament in which a number of PSi alumni featured in the final between SA and Namibia.
With the tournament moving to Durban once again many may have expected a renewed effort at the Franchise of the Year from the Western Cape rivals but it was the Namibian Hawks that dominated and ultimately became just the fifth different Franchise to win the title.
Incredibly the Mpumalanga Mambas, a team founded in 2014, dominated the B Section to win Franchise of the Year.
