A PSi Update – 10 Reasons to be excited for PSi Nationals 10

By November 17, 2016 No Comments

It is just a month to go before the 10th PSi Nationals take place in Cape Town. In order to get excited for the 10th celebration of the festival of Indoor Hockey, we thought we would point out ten reasons to be excited (Not that you should need any!)

Its Indoor Hockey

Is there ever a reason to not get excited by Indoor Hockey, the pace, the action, the goals. The sport is designed to be fast and frenetic and it never fails to deliver. In fact we could stop this list right here, but we won’t!

DJ Chris Taylor

The evenings at PSi Nationals produce some of the best entertainment, fun and laughter. Setting the scene for us again this year will be DJ Chris Taylor banging out the tunes and completing the festival feel of PSi.

The All Stars

Robert Tigges almost says it all, but the All Stars will be loaded with a squad so good that Matt Fairweather has not been sleeping since they were announced. World Cup winners, Olympic medallists and Moritz Furste.

Moritz Furste

If you love hockey then you know the name of Moritz Furste. The German international is truly one of the stars of World Hockey. A previous FIH World Player of the Year and a reason for every parent to join their kids at the All Star games. Wow.

New Franchises

It’s exciting that this year our normal party of Franchises will be complemented by two new Franchises. The South Coast Marlins who will play in a green and orange kit, and the Upington Rams who will play in a blue and maroon kit. I can’t wait to see these two starting their own history.

Cyril the Squirrel

Because no PSi Nationals would be complete without Cyril mimicking the coaches, helping the refs, coaching the players or throwing in his own swerve and fake. By the way, have you seen his drag flick?

Tons of Prizes from PRINCESS

As is always the case at PSi, PRINCESS will be there and will be giving away peaks, bags and if the crowd is vociferous enough maybe even a couple of Austin Smith photos, or at least sticks!

Ratanga Junction is back!

Being in Durban for the Nationals last year meant that we headed off to Ushaka, but this year we are back at Ratanga junction to welcome teams in the style that is often associated with our National events! It’s going to be a blast!

The future of SA Hockey

As we saw at the recently completed IPT in Cape Town, there are a host of players that have come through PSi and are now prominent on the national stage. The future stars of SA hockey (And Namibian Hockey) will be battling it out. In a few years’ time there will be articles about each of them!

It’s our 10th Year!

But I go back to my first point. It has been 10 years of blood, sweat and tears, but more importantly of laughter, fun and passion. This is our first milestone, it will not be our last! Let’s really celebrate 10 years of the spirit of indoor hockey!
