Each year at the various Pro Series Indoor events there have been some epic Pro Series Showdowns / All-Stars matches and as we start our 2019 Junior Southern Nationals its no difference. Indoor hockey is on a high in Western Province after the team broke a long duck to win the Indoor IPT and the two teams in action will feature a smattering of the players that won in Pietermaritzburg.

Before we dive in to the teams we must start with our team captains. Obviously, we can only start with Robert Tigges, the Indoor World cup winning Dutch captain, the Amsterdam hero and the current coach of the Amsterdam women. It’s the 8thtime Tigges is coming to South Africa and the man is a superb ambassador for our game. Tigges will lead Team Tigges tonight at UCT.

The man who will be staring him down on the other side of the court is South Africa’s very own Mr Hockey Jethro Eustice. Jet has just come back from India where he was part of the South African team that finished in the second at the FIH Hockey Series Final. Jethro has also been the South African Indoor Player of the Year before and knows Tigges extremely well having played him with South Africa many times as well as the African All-Stars last year.

Filling up team Eustice will be South African Internationals Ryan Julius, who has also just returned from India, and Dylan Piatti as well as goalkeeper of the year Anton van Loggerengberg. They will also call into action popular ex-Eastern Gauteng captain Kyle Cameron, Michael Wagstaff, Malachy Barbour and Damian Sparks. South Africa’s coach at the 2018 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup Pierre le Roux will oversee the team.

Team Tigges will call on South African goalkeeper and Chartered Accountant Matthew Becker alongside indoor hockey legend Dale Isaac. Jody Erasmus, who captained the Western Province team to the title in February, will add steel to the defence while Nevil Gora, Devon Keys and Kyle Esau will make up the numbers of the team looking to keep Tigges on a winning run. Of course, they will have South African, PSi and Boland Foxes legend Bruce Jacobs at the helm which will be an added boost in the inspiration ranks!

Its gonna be a fantastic celebration of indoor hockey at the UCT Sports Centre at 18:15. Get down to see another demonstration of our fantastic sport.
